THE CHRISTIE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
Department of Medical Oncology
Locum Consultant Medical Oncologist
with an interest in Acute Oncology and another Disease Group area (to be mutually agreed)
6-12 month fixed term appointment depending on availability
This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a Medical Oncologist who is passionate about developing improved patient centred services and contributing to education and training of junior staff.
The post has two components: firstly, the appointee will join a cadre of oncologists and acute physicians in delivering and developing the inpatient service for oncology patients at The Christie Hospital main site. On two days a week they will conduct hospital wide board rounds aimed at optimising their admission episode (with appropriate disease related management support from the patient’s primary oncology team).
The role will cover the 80 Oncology base ward beds with patients admitted via both emergency and elective streams with all types of solid tumours. The consultant will provide a board round on each ward of all patients with attendance and contributions from the multi-disciplinary team. Direct consultant reviews will also be delivered where appropriate. The appointee will be principally responsible for acute management of the patient and the on-going cancer management will remain the responsibility of the patient’s Primary Oncology team who will support the appointee with input at registrar and consultant level as required. Another key role of this post is to provide junior doctor supervision, education and support for their inpatient work.
The second component of this post will be to become an active member of one of the Disease Groups in an area of interest for the successful applicant. This will enable the post holder to work with the Multidisciplinary team to deliver treatment for patients from across the Manchester Cancer Network through outpatient clinics, ambulatory treatments and inpatient stays.
The post is available for up to 12 months from appointment and will be paid on the Locum Consultant Salary scale YC73 within the range of £77,913 to £105,042 per annum.
